School Theme for the 2019-2020 School Year

Image
A Message from Principal Klatt

I pray you all have been having a wonderful summer with family and friends. Last year our theme was “Built on the Rock”. Our focus was on how our faith is built on Jesus and all he has done to save us from our sins. This year our focus is going to be “Forward in Faith” based on Philippians 1:6  “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” At Salem, we encourage our students to live their faith in everything they do. Since Jesus died on the cross to take away all of our sins, we now get to say thank you by being kind and respecting others. The motivation created by Jesus is breathtaking to behold in our young students. They surprise us each and every day with the ways they show their love for their Savior.
Many of you may have heard the phrase “two steps forward and one step back”. We have that at Salem as well. We have students who don’t always move forward in their faith an…

Saint Croix Lutheran Alumni Update - Callie Jo

Image
Hello everyone! Hope all is going well at Salem. I wanted to give you guys an update about what I’ve been up to at St. Croix Lutheran Academy. A big thing that’s going on right now is track and field. This sport offers something for everyone, from sprints to long distance running to jumping to throwing to pole vault. Personally, I do distance running. The main races that I’m in are the 800-meter run (0.5 miles), the 1600 meter run (1 mile), and the 3200-meter run (2 mile). Track is a super fun way to get to know other people and build a strong team bond. No matter what events you do, everyone supports you no matter how you perform. It’s really amazing to see God shine through my teammates as they compete in events where they can use their God-given gifts to the best of their ability. God’s blessings!

Saints Win Bowling Tournament!

Image
On Saturday, the Salem Saints B team received two first-place trophies!  One for being the top team during the regular season and another for winning the end of season tournament.  The high school coaches, Kris & Blake, were very excited to see this young group of players improve and bowl great matches.

While the Saints A team didn't make it into the tournament bracket, they did get their season-high game score of 138.  All those players had a great time together and the coaches look forward to all (except 8th grader, Reese) returning!

Many of the Saints were also recognized for a high percentage of strikes and spares (fill percentage).  A great accomplishment for those players.  Also, congratulations to Kris for signing his letter of intent to bowl for Wartburg College.  We wish him the best of luck as he continues his education!

Thank you to all the players, parents, fans, and coaches for a great season!

Final bowling tournament!

The Salem Saints bowling teams will be participating in the league tournament on Saturday, May 18th at Southtown Lanes (7941 Southtown Ctr, Bloomington).  The day begins at 11 am and will include awards, pool play, and bracket play.  Kris Swanson, a former Salem Saint, and our B team coach, will also have a signing ceremony at 11:15 am.  He will be attending Wartburg College and compete on their college men's bowling team!  Good luck to the Saints and thank you to all the players and coaches for a fun season.

The Salem Parent Teacher Organization (SPTO) would like to invite you to celebrate our wonderful, dedicated staff at Salem by participating in some fun activities we have planned for this week!

Finally, we encourage you to surprise your child’s teacher or any other Salem staff with little treats or gifts throughout the week.  Our theme for this school year is “Built on the Rock”, so we will be spelling out “BU…

Staff Appreciation Week May 8 - 10

The Salem Parent Teacher Organization (SPTO) would like to invite you to celebrate our wonderful, dedicated staff at Salem by participating in some fun activities we have planned for this week!

First of all, we are planning to offer some breakfast treats during one of the teachers’ early morning staff meetings this week. Second, we are catering in a special lunch from Acapulco for all staff at Salem on Wednesday, May 8th.  We are asking families to please donate $5 per family to help with the expense of these two meals.  This special staff lunch is the one lunch all school year that teachers are able to eat with other staff members and be away from the noisy lunchroom.  It is a simple thing we can treat them to and it is always greatly appreciated by the staff members!

Finally, we encourage you to surprise your child’s teacher or any other Salem staff with little treats or gifts throughout the week.  Our theme for this school year is “Built on the Rock”, so we will be spelling out “BU…

Reminder - Salem Summer Basketball Camp 2019

The Salem A boys' basketball coach, Travis Koester, along with assistant coaches Neal and Tess Anderson, are excited to offer their 4th annual basketball camp this summer. The camp runs Monday (June 3rd) through Friday (June 7th) from 5:30-8:30pm. The camp is open to all boys and girls entering the 4th-8th grade. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a fun summer activity that aims to improve basic basketball skills. Please note that you do not have to be a current Salem basketball player to attend this camp. Even if your child has never played organized basketball before, this camp will provide excellent instruction on the basic fundamental skills of the sport. I highly recommend this camp to both new and experienced basketball players.

Further information and registration forms are currently available both in the school office and church narthex. The forms can also be accessed electronically through the links below. If you have any questions/comments, please …

Full and Part-time Aides Needed for 2019-2020

Are you good with kids?  Need some extra income?  Would you like a schedule that matches with your children? Then we have the opportunity for you.  Salem Lutheran School is looking for preschool aides and a K-2 aide for the 2019-2020 school year.

We will need one full-time aide for the 4-year-old classroom and possibly 2-3 part-time aides to cover before and after school care and an aide to help in the 3-year-old room.  The schedule for the part-time aides is dependent on the number of children scheduled for each day.  You must be 18 years old and be able to pass a background check.  We will train all other aspects of the job. Please consider this opportunity to help at Salem. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Grobe (jgrobe@salemlutheran.org).

We are also in need of a teacher’s aide for Kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grade. This is one position that will be split between the two classrooms. We are looking for someone who has patience and joy for working with young children.…

School News Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund The School Board is collecting money for the Endowment Fund. We received a grant to give us $20,000 in matching funds from Antioch. We currently are at $13,000. This fund’s purpose is to create an account that the school can use to give families who want to send their children to Salem but cannot afford it. We will only be able to use the interest of this account to give to families. We are hoping to raise $30,000 more for either the endowment fund or the normal Tuition Assistance account. Mr. Klatt will give another presentation in April about the Endowment Fund and its purpose. If you would like your questions answered sooner, feel free to talk to any of the School Board members or Mr. Klatt.
Confirmation We are blessed to have our six 8th graders confirmed on May 5th at the 10:30am service. If you are able, please attend and encourage them as they profess their faith in front of the congregation and have their first communion.
