Remote Chapel Service

Hello Salem Family, Tomorrow your child’s teacher will either be sending you a link to the chapel video I made or they will be sending the video itself. Please keep a look out for it and make use of it tomorrow as our students are used to having chapel on Wednesday mornings. I know some of the teachers left space on Wednesday morning, so this would be the perfect thing to fill that time with. God’s blessings on your night!

Please respond to the ClassDojo post from your child's teacher to let us know when you will be arriving, so we can follow social distancing procedures. Thank you!

Event Cancellations

Dear Salem School Families, Under the current circumstances, the Salem School Board has made the decision to suspend all extracurricular events, spring sports, field trips, spring plays, and the 8th-grade class trip and it's planning. As the situation changes and more is known, some of these items may be rescheduled or added back later in the school year. Thank you for your understanding!

Resources for Families

Hello Salem Family, The teachers have compiled a list of resources for the various grade levels. Here is the link for the google doc. Please use these during this week and as you choose during this homestay period. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sQvOHyoFtwVqvEKS8kVQXmQJID8B8FZYSxZ2A-bzBFw/edit?usp=sharing God's blessings on your day.

Childcare Help

Hello Salem Family, We have had a few families request childcare to help with their situations. School Board is following President Trump’s specifications about not having more than 10 people in a room. If you are willing to provide childcare to help out, please contact the school office at school.office@salemlutheran.org. We are asking you to list how many students you are willing to host and what age range. Thank you for considering helping other families.

Remote Learning Update

Hello Salem Family, The teachers met this morning and plans are beginning to form for how we are going to be able to serve you and your families as you remain in your homes. We want these plans to be well thought through so they can be successfully implemented from the start. In order to do this, we will need this entire week to get things ready for you. We are hoping to have days at the end of this week for families to pick up student work so we can start remote learning next Monday, March 23. The teachers also realize this is a long time for your kids to be without education. We are going to be putting together a list of resources you can use at home to keep your children learning while plans are being finalized. This resource list will be sent out tomorrow. Thank you for bearing with us and helping us as we continue to work together to educate your family and keep them safe. God’s blessings on your day.

Parent/Caregiver Needs

Hello Salem Family, The teachers and faculty of Salem are reaching out to see if there is a need for childcare or lunches during this time. If there is a need, please respond to your child’s teacher by Tuesday 8 pm, so we can make plans to assist you. God’s blessings on your day.

School Cancelled due to Coronavirus

I am sure many of you have heard the Governor’s press release this morning about school’s closing until March 27th. Salem will be following these instructions. The teachers will be meeting early this week starting tomorrow to come up with a plan for continuing education while your children are home. Look for more information in the coming days from your child’s teacher on how we will continue to serve you and your family during this time. God’s richest blessings on you all as we continue to trust in His almighty power and work together to get through this illness affecting our school.

Spring Break Extended

Salem will be extending Spring Break for two days. Classes will resume for all on Wednesday, March 18. Like I stated before, the Board will be meeting Monday night for planning, and teachers will be meeting on Tuesday to go over teaching protocol, e-learning planning, and cleaning procedures. Please stay informed by subscribing to our Salem Newsletter on the Parent Portal of our website salemlutheran.org and by checking ClassDojo. Continue to stay safe, and God’s blessings on your extended break.

Information Regarding Coronavirus

Hello School Family, I pray that everyone is enjoying spring break. As you are well aware, the COVID-19 (coronavirus) is dominating the headlines as it continues to spread. While the virus is a serious one, and precautions need to be in place, it is also important to consider the facts and ensure they come from reliable sources. News outlets, social media, and other communications are sharing all kinds of information and not all of it is accurate. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health departments are the most reliable and accurate sources of information. We encourage you to look to these sources for your information. Salem is taking this virus seriously. I want to assure you that our custodial personnel are cleaning the building while we are out on Spring Break. They also clean the building each night and follow specific protocol to keep the school as clean as possible. We will continue to follow the  cleaning recommendations of the CDC and local hea

Update from School District and Local Officials: Coronavirus

Hello Salem Family, Like many of you, we are closely following the evolving situation on COVID-19. This morning district leaders, along with leaders from our charter and parochial schools, participated in a conference call with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). At this time, MDH has provided guidance to schools to help slow the transmission of COVID-19 and protect the most vulnerable populations, however, broad school closures are not being recommended or supported. Salem’s Board of Education will be meeting on Monday night to create a plan for e-learning days. The teachers will be informed on Tuesday morning so a plan is in place if e-learning days are necessary. A reminder from the CDC: if you have children with pre-existing health conditions or have come in contact with someone who may have had symptoms, please keep your children at home. We want to take all the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Happy Spring Break!

No School 3/9/20 - 3/13/20 The school office will be closed for spring break. Have a blessed and safe week!!
