January School News - Updated

Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive for recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

Registration for Next School Year
Returning school families' enrollment will open for the 2020-2021 school year on January 6th. Look for a re-enrollment email from TADS that first week back from the break to make your re-enrollment process easier. Registration fees for next year went up for PreK-8. The preschool’s registration fee is now $100 before March 1st and $175 after. K-8 registration fee is $175 before March 1st and $275 after. New families may begin enrolling after PreK-8 on January 28th.

Tuition Model Change
The School Board is looking into changing our tuition model for the future. We will be having listening sessions in January to inform you of what that will look like and how it impacts you for next year. No big changes will be happening from this year to next year. Please make sure you attend one of the informational sessions that will be held in January. Mr. Klatt will send out an email the first week of January about when these forums will be held.

Open House/Visit Salem Day
Salem Lutheran School will have an Open House/Visit Salem Day on Tuesday, January 28. Times of the Open House are 9:30-11:00 am and  6:00-7:30 pm. Families that are interested in enrolling at Salem next year are encouraged to attend the Open House and receive information and a tour of the building. The morning times will let visitors see what the school is like with students in the classrooms. Staff members will be available in the morning and evening sessions to meet with prospective families and answer questions about Salem Lutheran School. Please encourage any families you know that may be interested in Salem to attend the Open House. For more information they may call the school office at 651-439-7831, visit our website at www.salemlutheran.org, or email us at school.office@salemlutheran.org.

Messy Mondays
Our first Messy Monday will be held on January 27th from 5 to 6pm at Salem. All families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to attend. Families will be charged $5 per child that attends and an activity or craft will be planned for the event. If you know of someone who is looking for a preschool or kindergarten for next year, please invite them. This is a wonderful opportunity to have them see our school and meet our awesome teachers.

MAP Testing
Our winter round of MAP testing will begin at the end of January. The students will take three tests to see how much they have grown from the beginning of the school year in math, reading, and language skills. This is one of the ways the teachers assess how the students are learning and growing throughout the year. Please make sure your child has no appointments scheduled so their testing is not interrupted. Thank you!

Bleacher Fundraiser/Update
This basketball season, we have started a new fundraiser to raise money for the new bleachers. Thank you to all who participated in the bake sale at our K-8 Christmas Service. We were so appreciative of the money we raised and the families that offered Christmas treats!  We currently have raised about $16,000 for the project and are looking to raise around $25,000.

Grade 3 & 4 Pop Tab Collection
Mrs. Hasselquist and her class are supporting The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. Her classroom has been part of this program for around 15 years and they have collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received from these go directly to support the Ronald McDonald House. There is a collection bin in the classroom and at the church and school entrances. What a great way to help others!

We Are Also Collecting Box-tops for Education and aluminum cans. Please remember to check the date on the Boxtops for Education as they do expire. The Box Top program has added a new app that you use to take a picture of your sales receipt to earn points. Please contact the school office for more information. Labels can be placed in the bin at the school door entrance. Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property. Thanks for helping our school!

SCRIP
Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website?  You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it.  You can also now order with your credit card!  All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition - some families have earned over $400 just by using gift cards to pay for your purchases. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $.25 to cover any costs. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We have also added an option to direct your profits to the church. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings on our school year.
