May Message from the Principal

From the Principal’s Desk
May 2018
                                             Fix Our Eyes on Jesus

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
                                                                                                        Hebrews 12:1-2

Our school year is rapidly coming to an end.  Throughout this year we have grown in many ways. Our bodies grew and we may be taller and bigger.  We have learned a lot more so our knowledge has grown.  We have practiced in athletics, music, and art so we have grown in our physical and artistic abilities.  We have learned how to respect others and handle our differences so we h…

Salem Basketball Camp June 4th - 8th

The Salem A boys' basketball coach, Travis Koester, along with assistant coaches Neal and Tess Anderson, are excited to offer their 3rd annual basketball camp this summer. The camp runs Monday, June 4th through Friday, June 8th from 5:30-8:30 pm. The camp is open to all boys and girls entering the 4th-8th grade. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a fun summer activity that aims to improve basic basketball skills. Please note that you do not have to be a current Salem basketball player to attend this camp. Even if your child has never played organized basketball before, this camp will provide excellent instruction on the basic fundamental skills of the sport. I highly recommend this camp to both new and experienced basketball players. Further information and registration forms are currently available in the school office. The forms can also be accessed electronically through the links at the bottom of this post. If you have any questions/comments, please emai…

A Message from Salem SPTO

Salem Staff Appreciation Week - May 7th-11th
The SPTO would like to invite you to celebrate our wonderful, dedicated staff at Salem by participating in some fun activities we have planned for this week!

First of all, we are planning to offer some breakfast treats during one of the teachers' early morning staff meetings this week. Second, we are catering in a special lunch from the Olive Garden for all staff at Salem on Thursday, May 10th. We are asking families to please donate $5 per family to help with the expense of these two meals. This special staff lunch is the one lunch all school year that teachers are able to eat with other staff members and be away from the noisy lunchroom. It is a simple thing we can treat them to and it is always greatly appreciated by the staff members! Finally, we encourage you to surprise your child’s teacher or any other Salem staff with little treats or gifts throughout the week.

Our theme for this school year is “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus”, so we will be spelli…

A Note from Julie Ross:

We have an awesome staff here at Salem!! We are going to appreciate them for a week in May. More details will come with the word of the week and things that we can do to appreciate our staff. We are planning a staff lunch and need donations to cater in the lunch. We also are looking for parent help if you are interested. You can leave your monetary donations in the office. A suggestion is $5 per family.

Chapel Offerings and Baby Bottles

Image
Just a reminder that our 2nd-semester chapel offerings are going to Christian Life Ministries in Little Canada, MN. This ministry reaches out to families in need in the Twin Cities area and provides support and resources. Many of the families that are coming to the Little Canada location love the support given by the pregnancy center and have asked more specifically for more Bible classes. This ministry is growing and can use much support and prayers! More information on their thrift store
and how to drop off donations of clothing and other items can be found below.

There are also baby bottles in the school office for any of you that would like to collect change for this ministry from friends and family. Fill up as many bottles as you like and help this ministry continue to grow!

Encourage Future Ministry Leaders

Encourage Future Ministry Leaders
Salem Lutheran families are deeply grateful for pastors who preach the Gospel, preschool staff who reflect Christ to the Stillwater community, and instructors who nurture young people in our Lord’s truth. The  Sundays of April 15, 22 and 29 have been set aside as times to prayerfully reflect on and encourage those preparing for the full-time ministry through Martin Luther College (MLC). MLC will match up to $3,000 given by Salem members to support each Salem member preparing for ministry. These gifts will also support our high school and Seminary students who plan to prepare for full-time ministry.  Please pray for Salem’s young people preparing to serve the Lord in this way and consider an additional donation for “Salem Scholarship Fund” via the special envelopes or www.SalemLutheran.org/Donate select “other” and “MLC.”

First Bowling Match of the season

The first bowling match of the season is this Friday, April 6th.   The "A" and "B" teams will be competing at Concord Lanes in West St Paul.  The matches start at 6 pm.  All matches for the season have been added to the Salem google calendar.  A reminder that food and beverages are for sale at the lanes, so join us for an evening of fun!  Go Saints!

Stillwater School Closings

Stillwater Schools are closing the high school and middle school at 12:30 pm today. Stillwater elementary schools are closing at 2:00 pm. This means Salem students that take the bus will not have bus service until 3:00 pm. Our bused students will be released at 3:00 pm for this reason.

We realize many parents will want to pick up earlier in the day if the weather situation becomes more difficult. Please pick up your child as early as you would like considering the road conditions. We will remain open until 3:40 pm, especially for students that can not be picked up until then.

There is no bowling practice after school and limited after school care today. Please give the school office a call if you can not pick up your child by 3:40 pm.

Thank you!
