December School News

Advent Services Begin
Advent Season is upon us. This is the time where we prepare for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus into the world. We have services on December 4th and 11th at 4pm and 7pm with dinner in between. Please make plans to attend to hear the wonderful news of the coming of our Savior.

Jump Up Day
Our annual Jump Up Day will be on December 6th this year. For the morning, students get to “jump up” to the classroom they will be in next year. This allows them to get to know who their teacher will be and hopefully put to rest some of the nerves they may have as they get closer to the end of the year.

Crusader for a Day
The 8th-grade students have the opportunity to go to St. Croix on December 6th. This will give them a taste of high school life and a chance to see what St. Croix has to offer. Many of our students attend St. Croix, but even if the students don’t, it is a great opportunity for them to see what high school life is like.

Luther Prep Visit
Luther Preparatory School is coming to Salem on December 9th in the afternoon. Pastor Chartrand will be sharing that the purpose of Luther Preparatory School is to prepare students to enter the ministry as a Pastor or Teacher, but also just to have a solid Christian education for college in general. We look forward to welcoming them to Salem for the afternoon on the 9th.

Bleacher Fundraiser/Update
This basketball season, we have started a new fundraiser to raise money for the new bleachers. At halftime, the families and students have the opportunity to shoot baskets from various lengths in exchange for prizes. We have raised $200 over two nights of games, which is fantastic. We are also accepting donations in the school office if you would like to put money towards the new bleachers. We currently have raised around 11,000 for the project and are looking to raise around $25,000.

Christmas Programs
The Preschool Christmas Program will on December 12th at 6pm. The service will be in the church and the students will share with us the wonderful news that the Savior is born. There will be ice cream refreshments after the service in the cafeteria/fellowship hall.

The K-8 Christmas Service will be on December 18th at 6pm in the gym. The students will walk us through the Christmas story with our theme being on how Jesus is the light of the world. The students are excited to share the story and their songs with you that evening. Christmas bags will be handed to the students and the children in the audience as they exit the gym.

Christmas Bake Sale
SPTO is sponsoring a Bake Sale during the K-8 Christmas Service. Tina Thompson and Julie Ross will be collecting donations of baked goods Monday through Wednesday before the program. If you would like to help by making some baked goods or have any questions please contact them at spto.events@salemlutheran.org. All proceeds from the sale will go towards purchasing our new bleachers for the gym.

Grade 3 & 4 Pop Tab Collection
Mrs. Hasselquist and her class are supporting The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. Her classroom has been part of this program for around 15 years and they have collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received from these go directly to support the Ronald McDonald House. There is a collection bin in the classroom and at the church and school entrances. What a great way to help others!

We Are Also Collecting Box-tops for Education and aluminum cans. Please remember to check the date on the Boxtops for Education as they do expire. The Box Top program now has a new app to use to take pictures of your sales receipt to earn points. Contact the school office for more information! Labels can be placed in the bin at the school door entrance. Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property.

SCRIP
Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website?  You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it.  You can also now order with your credit card!  All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition - some families have earned over $400 just by using gift cards to pay for your purchases. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $.25 to cover any costs. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We have also added an option to direct your profits to the church. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings on our school year.
