Grades 1-7 Singing on Sunday

Correction! Grades 1-7 are singing on Sunday for the 8th-grade graduation service. Kindergarten is not expected to attend.

Students in Grades 1-7 are scheduled to sing Salem’s theme song for this year, “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus”, at the beginning of the 9:30 service on Sunday, June 3.  This is the graduation service for our eighth-grade students. Students will not need to practice the song before the service, they already know the song. They should just come to church, sit in the pews, and then come up front when it is time to sing the song. They will sing the song right at the beginning of the service after the pastor gives his welcome.  When they finish the song, students will go back and sit with their family or they may leave if the family is not staying for the service.

Getting Ready for 2018-2019

The first item to tell you is we are excited to start using a company called TADS to help manage our student information and to help you manage your tuition costs. We previously used to TADS to evaluate financial assistance needs but we will now also use them for storing information, lunch, and tuition billing. In order to do so, you will soon be contacted by TADS via email to allow you to set up your enrollment for next year. Please complete this enrollment for each child you will have at Salem as soon as you receive it so we can finalize and confirm all information is accurate for next year! You should be receiving this within the week. When you enter your enrollment in TADS, having your contact information as well as these items below on hand will make the process much easier for you: At least two emergency contacts for your student with their phone numbers. Preschool families should have at least two pick up people as well and have a phone and address for each. Update on SCRIP!

We are enhancing our current SCRIP program to allow you to order your SCRIP on your own if you choose.  We will still do regular orders on the 2nd & 4th Monday mornings, but, now you have the option to place your own order.  The other change will be a flat 20% fee for shipping on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $1 to cover any costs.  We will monitor this fee and may lower if possible.  We are also offering to apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We are also adding an option to direct your profits to church.  We are excited about the changes and hope you are as well.  Contact any SPTO member or the church office for more information. There is also more information in the attachment below.

Thanks!

Bowling Season Wrap-up

The Salem Saints had their final bowling tournament on Saturday, May 19th.  While neither team advanced very far in the tournament, the "A" and "B" teams had good seasons overall.  Both Tyler and Eli were recognized for the highest fill percentage (meaning most spares or strikes per frame) for our teams.  Overall the Saints had 96 strikes and 152 spares this season!  We thank Tyler for his leadership and will miss him next year as he moves on to high school.  The future for Salem bowling looks great and we hope all the young players return next year!

THANK YOU!

The teachers and staff members of Salem Lutheran School thank all the students and parents for the many gifts they gave us for Teacher Appreciation Week last week.  It was very uplifting to receive a little gift as a thank you each day.  We all were very appreciative of the catered meal that you served us on Thursday.  It was a pleasure to have a meal like this and to be able to share it with the rest of the staff at the same time.  Thank you to those that covered our classes so that we could dine together.  Your efforts worked, we feel appreciated!

Thank you!

Also on Thursday, May 10, K-4 will present “The Amazing Grace Race.” It is a musical that depicts this year’s school theme “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus” as it is the story of a group of runners who are running the race of life, much like the race that Christians run with Jesus to heaven. Did You Sign Up for Basketball Camp Yet?

The Salem A boys' basketball coach, Travis Koester, along with assistant coaches Neal and Tess Anderson, are excited to offer their 3rd annual basketball camp this summer. The camp runs Monday, June 4th through Friday, June 8th from 5:30-8:30 pm. The camp is open to all boys and girls entering the 4th-8th grade. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a fun summer activity that aims to improve basic basketball skills. Please note that you do not have to be a current Salem basketball player to attend this camp. Even if your child has never played organized basketball before, this camp will provide excellent instruction on the basic fundamental skills of the sport. I highly recommend this camp to both new and experienced basketball players. Further information and registration forms are currently available in the school office. The forms can also be accessed electronically through the links at the bottom of this post. If you have any questions/comments, please emai…

Staff Appreciation Week Reminder!

Salem Staff Appreciation Week - May 7th-11th
The SPTO would like to invite you to celebrate our wonderful, dedicated staff at Salem by participating in some fun activities we have planned for ne week!
First of all, we are planning to offer some breakfast treats during one of the teachers' early morning staff meetings this week. Second, we are catering in a special lunch from the Olive Garden for all staff at Salem on Thursday, May 10th. We are asking families to please donate $5 per family to help with the expense of these two meals. This special staff lunch is the one lunch all school year that teachers are able to eat with other staff members and be away from the noisy lunchroom. It is a simple thing we can treat them to and it is always greatly appreciated by the staff members! Finally, we encourage you to surprise your child’s teacher or any other Salem staff with little treats or gifts throughout the week.
Our theme for this school year is “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus”, so we will be spelling…
