Free Lunch

Dear Salem Family, Salem’s lunch program has been looking into the federal funds for providing free lunch to our students. We recently put in our application and are able to give free lunch to all of our students. This program is set to begin on October 1st.    The program is set to run through December 31 st , BUT there is only a limited amount of money put into this program. This means that if the money runs out early the program will end early and families will start having to pay for lunch again. We will keep families informed of when the program is set to end as we hear news.    You do not need to participate in the program, but all families are eligible for free lunch starting on Oct 1st. Our secretary will set up everyone’s lunch account, so it doesn’t pull money daily for the duration of the program. We will also suspend pulling out the automatic payments for lunch until the program is ended.   If your lunch account is negative, you will be receiving an email to get your acco

COVID School Year Many of our students have gotten used to all of the new routines that have been put in place. Everyone is great at getting their temperature taken in the morning and wearing their masks throughout the day. We continue to thank God that we can have school in person, and although we have had some illness going around, we are COVID free up to this point. Grandparent’s Day Revamp Typically at the end of September, we invite all of the student’s grandparents to come and spend the day with them. Unfortunately due to COVID, we were not able to invite grandparents into the building. However, we still wanted to do something for them. All of the teachers made videos of their classrooms for the grandparents, and each student is sending a letter of some kind to their grandparents as well. Thank you to all of our Salem grandparents, and God’s richest blessings upon you. Picture Retake Day Picture retake day will be on October 29th. We should be getting the first pictures ba

This picture was taken in the town of Ndola Twenty-nine years ago, my wife Leslie and I were preparing to go to Africa to serve as a newly assigned missionary. We had three children ages four, two and four months. The other two children would be born a few years later while living in Zambia. We were young, and excited. I was eager to start working as an African Missionary and my wife was wondering how best to care for our young family, knowing that her skills as a RN would come in very handy. Now, all the kids are grown, four of the five children are married, and five grandchildren have been added to the family; and Leslie and I are getting ready to move again to Africa. This time I am going to serve as the Leader of WELS World Mission’s One Africa Team (OAT). The OAT co

Friends of Africa, Friends of Christ Here is the latest blog from our One Africa Team. TELL Africa the Good News Sep 09, 2020 04:21 am |  shepherdroebke@gmail.com The TELL Network leverages the internet to deliver Bible teaching to students all over the world In 2018 WELS World Mission’s  Multi-Language Publications  had a vision to reach the world with the Gospel in a new way. Their vision was to equip people with the truth of God’s word using digital resources in English. Like the Latin America mission field’s Spanish  Academia Cristo , TELL would use English to reach people through social media, self-led Bible lessons and live video classrooms. Three years later, God has blessed that vision. The  TELL Network  has 1.2 million followers and likes on its main  Facebook page . Across the globe there are 7,000 active users doing self-led Bible lessons on the  TELL app  and  website . Currently there is one full-time TELL missionary who meets several times a week with students from Afr

Dear Salem school family-- In light of current challenges related to classroom gathering, Salem is introducing a new approach to Sunday school. Beginning Sunday, September 13th, lessons taught by experienced WELS teachers will be available free via YouTube. The engaging and age-appropriate Lesson Videos will tie to printed Student Lessons that Salem will provide to you at no cost. This new approach presents an easy yet meaningful way for you to encourage your child’s faith in Christ. The videos are about 10-12 minutes for PreK-K, 1-2, and 3-4. Grades 5-6 will run about 25 minutes because lessons for this level are structured differently.  To see a preview of the Sunday, September 13th Lesson Video and Student Lesson, visit  nph.net/ss-at-home . This is also an opportunity to share the good news about Jesus with friends and neighbors. If you know someone with children who might benefit from these materials, please feel free to order and share them. Please reply by September 6th to Amy S
