Final Round of the MLC Meet Math Competition

Image
Our middle school students recently finished the final round of this year's Martin Luther College Meet Math competition. Students worked on six competition-level math problems. You can see our school and individual student results and rankings by visiting https://meetmath.mlc-wels.edu/results/view . Our Salem fifth and sixth-grade students are in the B-3 category, and our seventh and eighth-grade students are in the A-5 category. Categories are determined by enrollment. Meet Math is a service club at Martin Luther College that provides mathematics contests for students in grades 5-12 who are enrolled in WELS or ELS schools. This club also maintains school and individual statistics that are the basis for various awards presented at the end of the school year. For more information about Meet Math, visit https://meetmath.mlc-wels.edu/about .

Registration for Preschool Next School Year The time is here already to register your child for preschool. We have 3 classes offered; 3 year olds, mixed age, and 4 and 5 year olds not yet ready for kindergarten. We now have a waiting list for our 4 and 5 year old classrooms. There are still some spots available for 3 year olds. Registration fees are $100 for the early bird until March 1st, then the fee is $175. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Parking Safety

Dear Salem Families, We need your help! Please do NOT park in the drive through area in front of school for drop off or for pick up of your child. We need this area clear for families to stop for quick drop off or pick up. This is not a parking area. Preschool families should park in the two available parking lots near the school entrance and walk their child in. K-8 families may stop to drop off children or pick up in this area for brief stops but if you are leaving the car for any reason, you MUST use the parking lots . Please keep the area marked for bus drop off free from cars in the morning so buses can safely drop these students off as well. The area available for parent drop off in the morning is marked with the blue painted curb. We also have some families turning right out of the parking lot along Panama St. to exit on to Panama. Please turn left and follow the flow of traffic and exit on 62nd St N . We have seen some close calls and need to keep everyone safe.

Registration Reminder - Registration Discount Ends Soon!

Preschool Registration Interest in our preschool has been amazing! We are just about full in our 4 and 5 year old classrooms but we are still giving tours for those that wish to be on our wait list. There are still spots available for the 3 year old program! The registration fee is $100 this week until March 1st, then the fee increases to $175. K-8 Registration If you haven't already, make sure to register this week for the 2021-2022 school year! The registration fee is $175 this week until March 1st, after that the fee is $275. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Joint Partnership Announcement

Thank you to everyone who participated in the open forum on February 8th.  The committee looking into the possible partnership with SCLA received good feedback and a lot of questions.  After we met to go through all of the information, it became apparent to the team the congregation and many school families would appreciate being able to see and discuss specific scenarios versus having a more “open ended” discussion.  Also, the team received several questions that are best answered directly by the leadership at SCLA.  For these reasons, we are going to postpone the open forums to allow the team time to meet with SCLA and develop specific and detailed options.  We will reschedule soon so we can share the ideas and have a more structured conversation about what it could mean to our ministry.  Stay tuned!

One Africa Team Update

Image
Good morning Salem School family! Even though we have completed gathering our 1st semester mission offering to support our One Africa Team, we will still share their updates when we receive them. Take a look at this month's update. We are so rich here in the St. Croix Valley. Pause for a moment and thank the Lord for all our blessings, and ask that he will continue to provide for our fellow believers in Africa! Life is Full of Challenges Pastor Richard Ochichi prepares for an online class taught by One Africa Team Missionary Dan Witte “Life is full of challenges,” notes Pastor Ochichi Nyangau. “Each day comes with its own.” Meet Richard Ochichi Nyangau, a pastor in Kenya who has served three parishes. He is one of my brothers in the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LC-MC). Pastor Ochichi and I got acquainted recently online. From October 2020 through January 2021 he was in a theological research and writing class which I taught. Pastor Ochichi participated studiously—f

Salem Parent Teacher Organization Meeting Recap

Hello Fellow Salem Parents and Caregivers, All parents are automatically members of SPTO :) We really want to make sure everyone feels included so here is a recap of key points from SPTO's special meeting on Thursday (2/4) for those who could not attend. 1 - Those present agreed it is a good idea to move forward with initiating a "Salem Parent Classroom Lead/Co-lead". Sherah Spark and Sarah Wegwerth will work on drafting a document that outlines the mission statement, purpose, goal, and logistics of what will likely become a committee. This document will be presented at the next official SPTO meeting (see below). Those interested in being involved with drafting the document should email Sherah at  sherahp@hotmail.com  ASAP. 2 - Due to the open forum being scheduled during the normal SPTO meeting time,  the next official SPTO meeting will be March 11th at 6:30pm  - we will be holding elections for new officers, committee positions, and the Parent Classroom Lead/Co-lead i

Joint Ministry Open Forum Sign-up

Hello Salem Family, The time has come to sign up for the Joint Ministry Open Forums  on February 8th, February 18th or Saturday,  March 13th. This is an  opportunity for congregation and school families to ask questions  and give the planning  committee feedback on possibly joining  with St. Croix Lutheran Academy to benefit both of our  ministries.  After the Forums, the planning committee will take your thoughts  and concerns to the School Board  for future planning. These  meetings will not change anything for Salem Lutheran School's  educational structure  or tuition in the coming 2021-2022 school  year. These meetings will determine if/how Salem's structure  may  change in the future. There are two choices for the Open Forum. We will be holding it in  person, in the church, or virtually over  Google Meet. If you would like to sign-up to be in person, y
