Boys Basketball summary game #9

Saints Come out on Fire in Road Victory at Belle Plaine!
On Friday last week, our committed Salem basketball families battled heavy traffic as both teams made the journey to Trinity Lutheran in Belle Plaine. Before our game tipped-off, Trinity put on an awesome ceremony that honored the parents of every basketball athlete. Seeing this Parents’ Night celebration served as an important reminder for our boys of the immense sacrifices that parents make to support their children throughout the entire basketball season!
Right from the outset of this game, our Salem Saints put the pedal to the metal. Regardless of the opponent, the first half of this game was easily our best all-around basketball performance of the season. The two key aspects that contributed to this awesome start were our offensive execution and our interior dominance, which led to numerous offensive rebounds. Throughout the entire first half, our Saints conducted all of my offensive plays better than I can even draw them up, which led to a beautiful offensive masterpiece. Our interior dominance, which occurred on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court, was the other key to our massive 29-2 halftime lead. Sixth grader Noah (6 points) more than held his own inside by carrying out numerous offensive drop-steps that we have been working on all year in practice! Eighth grader Houghton (12 points) dominated the interior by crashing hard to the rim everytime we took a jump shot. The manner in which Houghton always battles for every loose ball makes me a proud basketball coach! Houghton, along with seventh grader Reese (4 points), led our zone defense with solid communication, active hands, and a perfect defensive stance and help defense technique. Night in and night out, these two are always our best defenders and lead our excellent defense.
In the second half, Trinity switched to a zone defense that enabled them to slow down the pace of the game. The second half was one of the first times all season we have faced a zone defense, which provided us with a great opportunity to work on our zone offense. The last five minutes of the game presented our younger players with a chance to get a lot of playing time. It was so awesome to see that no matter what lineup we had out on the floor, the overall effort from our Salem Saints always stayed at a very high level! When the final buzzer sounded (final score: 35-8), the joyful gleam on the faces of all our kids would have been the perfect snapshot of an extremely fun night of Salem hoops!
The Saints are back at home next Friday as we compete against the Sailors from Salem, Greenfield.
