Kindergarten Visited by Fire Department

As part of  Fire Prevention Week, two members of the Stillwater Fire Department visited the Kindergarten classroom this past Wednesday. They talked with the children about fire safety. They especially warned the students about the dangers of matches and lighters and encouraged the children to tell an adult if they found either of those things on their playground or in their yard. They also encouraged the children to remind their parents to change the batteries in their smaller detectors at home. They also encouraged the children to discuss and talk with their families about an escape plan from their house in case of a fire and also to set up a safe meeting area to go to outside their home.   Firefighter Matt put on all his firefighting gear. They explained how all of his gear is needed to keep them safe from the fire and how it makes them look much different and even sound different because of the mask and oxygen tank. Some children have been scared by what firefighters look and sound like in a fire and have hidden from them.

Finally, all of the children and families of the community are invited to an Open House this Saturday from 10am - 1pm at the Stillwater Fire Station (250 Maryknoll Drive N). They will have a bounce house, refreshments, face painting, child fingerprinting, and ability to practice using a fire extinguisher on live training props. Please consider attending this wonderful opportunity with your child to learn more about fire safety.
