SCHOOL NEWS

Following is a little about the new staff members at Salem:

Ryan Klatt (New Principal)
I was born and raised in New Hope, MN with my older sister, Megan, and younger brother, Caleb. My dad is a Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church and School and my mother teaches Preschool there as well. My wife and I have purchased a house on Owens St. N in Stillwater and are settled for the most part. Our dog, Cooper, is still adjusting to living in a new home, but he is managing. I like to play sports and watch Netflix in my free time, but I am most excited to get into biking with all of the wonderful trails around Stillwater.

I am very excited to start teaching at Salem. Teaching is one of my favorite things to do. I love interacting with the students and joking around with them. I also am excited to work with the parents and teachers as we partner to help their children grow academically, emotionally, but most importantly spiritually. It is a great honor and privilege to be able to share God’s Word with your children and tell them just how much their God and Savior loves them on a daily basis. Nothing could be better than that. I look forward to meeting all of the families and be able to partner in helping to educate and raise your children with you.

Jessica Klatt (Kindergarten)
Jessica Klatt was born and raised in the Twin Cities area. She graduated from Martin Luther College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.  Before deciding to be a teacher, Jessica wanted to pursue a career in music performance. After observing a preschool classroom in high school, she fell in love with the classroom setting and decided to be a teacher instead. She couldn't be happier with the decision! Jessica is passionate about making learning hands-on and active so that children enjoy and love going to school. When she is not teaching or prepping for school, she enjoys playing piano and oboe, taking her dog, Cooper, for walks, running and training for races, and trying out new restaurants around town.

Amy Gosch (3 Yr Old Preschool)
Amy Gosch is a Milwaukee Wisconsin native with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education from Martin Luther College in 1999. Her philosophy of teaching is that children learn through play and is very excited for the hands-on learning projects and creativity that the children will be able to display while learning about their amazing Savior who has died, rose, and has a place for them in Heaven. When not at school, Amy is busy raising her three children along with enjoying crafts, cooking, and baking.

Enrollment
Current enrollment for the preschool is 52 students.  Preschool students are registered for a minimum of 3 half days a week. They may choose to enroll for more days or full days as the school year progresses.  Our K-8 enrollment is now at 74 students.  We look forward to meeting with parents throughout the summer who are interested in sending their children to Salem.

Installation
Ms. Gosch, Mr. Klatt, and Mrs. Klatt will be installed on September 9th at the 10:30am service. There will be a reception with baked goods to follow the service. Please come and support your new called workers as they begin their callings at Salem.

25th Year Anniversary
Mrs. Jill Kaiser will be celebrating her 25th year in the ministry this year. She will have her celebration on September 9th with the teachers being installed. We thank God for everything she has done for his kingdom in her 25 years of service.

Jubilate Choir
We will be having Jubilate Choir again this year. Ms. Gosch will be our new director. We thank her for being willing to serve in this capacity. Ms. Gosch will be meeting with the students the first week of school to let them know what choir will be like. The first official practice for Jubilate choir will be September 4th. Please talk with your children about joining the choir and using their voices to praise their Lord and Savior.

School Classroom Updates
The upper-grade teachers are swapping classrooms for the upcoming school year. Mr. Klatt will be in Mr. Scharf’s old room, Mr. Scharf will be in Mrs. Brohn’s old room, and Mrs. Brohn will be in Mrs. Schoch’s old room. Matt Brohn applied a fresh coat of paint to Mrs. Brohn’s new room, so it is ready to go for the upcoming school year. Finally, Mrs. Grobe received new carpet in her room.

Salem Sports News
Soccer and Volleyball seasons are starting in September. We will have a soccer team and a B-team girls volleyball team. Games are typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The times for practice and games are on the Salem Sports Calendar. Rachel Collins will be coaching soccer and Mrs. Klatt will be coaching volleyball.

Cross Country will be starting after the soccer season has finished. Ross Collins will be coaching again this year.

The Twin Cities Lutheran Grade School Athletic League has also added Disc Golf to our sporting options. We will see if we have any takers this coming September.

Upcoming Dates
September 4- Volleyball and Soccer practices begin this week
                September 10 – Picture Day
                September 28 – Grandparents Day

Ways to Help Our School

We are still collecting Boxtops for Education, aluminum cans and ink cartridges. Please remember to check the date on the Boxtops for Education as they do expire. These, as well as the ink cartridges, can be placed in the bin at the school door entrance. Aluminum cans can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property.

SCRIP Orders
We are enhancing our current SCRIP program to allow you to order your SCRIP on your own if you choose.  We will still do regular orders on the 2nd & 4th Monday mornings, but, now you have the option to place your own order online.  The other change will be a flat 10% fee for shipping on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $.50 to cover any costs.  We will monitor this fee and may lower if possible.  We are also offering to apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We are also adding an option to direct your profits to church.  We are excited about the changes and hope you are as well.  Contact any SPTO member or the church office for more information.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings on our school year.
