January Salem School News

Registration for Preschool Next School Year

The time is already here to register your child for preschool. A re-enrollment email will come out the week of January 3rd for those currently enrolled. If you are currently enrolled at Salem School or a member at Salem you can register and reserve your spot for the 2022-2023 school year. We will have 3 classes available; 3 year olds, mixed age, and 4 and 5 year olds not yet ready for kindergarten. We reserve the right to place your child in the classroom that best meets your child’s educational needs and our staffing.

Registration fees are $100 for the early bird until March 1st, then the fee is $175. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. You have the choice of which days you would like your child to come. There’s a minimum attendance of 3 half days up to 5 full days. The cost is $30 for half day, $40 for a full day.

Tours will be scheduled individually for those interested. If you have any questions you can call 651-439-7831 and talk to Jane Grobe. If you know of any 2-4 year olds looking for a preschool, please refer them to our website salemlutheran.org for registration information and for requesting a tour. We open enrollment on February 1st for all remaining spots in our classrooms. You get the first option for spots available. Remember, word of mouth is our best advertisement.

Registration for K-8 Next School Year

Returning school families’ enrollment will open for the 2022-2023 school year on January 3rd. This enrollment is open to any current students and their siblings. Salem member families may also enroll at this time. Look for a re-enrollment email from TADS that first week back from break to make your re-enrollment process easier. Salem members new to our school may enroll directly on our school website. K-8 registration fee is $175 before March 1st and $275 after. New families may begin enrolling on February 1st.

COVID Update

Thanksgiving break created a rise in COVID cases at Salem. We had four classes quarantining after break due to COVID exposures, but since that first week back after Thanksgiving, we have not had any more cases. We thank parents for keeping us informed of their children’s illnesses and for their cooperation in keeping their children home if they are sick.

St. Croix Joint Ministry with Salem

Due to the Council looking into the financial situation of the church and school, this joint ministry has been put on hold for a year. We will have more updates like the one at the previous voters meeting as we start up next school year. The one page update is attached below if you would like to view it. If you want a printed copy, please reach out to Mr. Klatt or the church office.

Jump Up Day - Postponed to January

With all of the COVID cases after Thanksgiving, Jump Up Day was postponed until January. We will still have a day when the students will get to experience the next grade level. We are excited to offer this for the students and to have them get excited for their next school year.

MAP Winter Testing

From January 24th-28th, Salem students will take the second round of testing for the school year. The teachers will be looking for growth from the Fall testing and using the results to inform their teaching on what students are doing well and what they may need a refresher on. A reminder to parents that these tests require a lot of brain power so a good night’s sleep and filling breakfast can help students perform at their best.

Power-Up Winter Challenge

In January, the students are challenged to be active during the Winter months. This can be a time where it is easy just to hang around inside and not be very active. Power-Up has us track which students are active throughout two weeks and gives Salem money based on the percentage of kids that participate. This is a great way to remind our students to be active and raise money for other fitness equipment Salem may need replaced.

No School January 17th- MLK Day

There will be no school on January 17th for MLK Day.

No Bus January 24th

Please make sure you have drop-off and pick-up arrangements for your child that day.

Sports Update

The Boy’s B-team is now 1-1 as of writing this update. They continue to improve and we look forward to the rest of their season.

The Girl’s B-team has yet to play a game this season due to other schools not having girl’s teams and a COVID exposure at Salem. We look forward to their first game and seeing how the season goes for their team. If you would like a schedule of the games, you can look online on the Salem Sports calendar or you can email Tom Stob (tstob@salemlutheran.org) for the game schedule.

Referral Program

The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

No More Clipping Box Tops

Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone. Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label, and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these!

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans

Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage facing Panama Ave. on our property. Thanks for helping our school!

SCRIP

Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website? You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it. You can also now order with your credit card! All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders. This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition. We have also added an option to direct your profits to church. Contact the church office for more information. You will need this code to order and have it link your purchase to our account: 2241AD6C14415

Prayer

One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school and church year.
