Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive for recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

Registration for Next School Year
Returning school families’ enrollment will open for the 2020-2021 school year on January 6th. Look for a re-enrollment email from TADS that first week back from break to make your re-enrollment process easier. Registration fees for next year went up for PreK-8. The preschool’s registration fee is now $100 before March 1st and $175 after. K-8 registration fee is $175 before March 1st and $275 after. New families may begin enrolling PreK-8 on January 28th.

Spirit Week
The students will be showing their school spirit from February 10-13. The students will dress up for fun and get excited about the upcoming MLC Tournament. The dress-up days are as follows:

Monday: Pajama Day/Bed Head Day
Tuesday: Fake an Injury Day
Wednesday: Disney Day
Thursday: Salem Spirit Day

Winter Power Up Challenge
During the last week of January and the first week of February, Salem students will be participating in a challenge to be active. The students will be asked if they were active the previous day by the teachers, and they will track how many students were active in their class. It is just a total number, so no students will be shamed with no checks by their name for not being active. If we have 100% participation we can get $200 or more for our physical activity needs.

No School-MLC Tournament/President’s Day
On February 14th and 17th there will be no school. The 14th is off because our girl’s A-Team will be playing basketball in New Ulm, MN at MLC, and they will need the day to travel. We also have the following Monday off for President’s day.

Middle School Ski Trip
Salem’s Middle School will be taking their annual field trip to Afton Alps to ski on February 21. This is a great field trip for the students because they teach the students how to start skiing.

Costa Maya Ministries Offering Complete
Our 1st Semester offering went to help families in Costa Maya, Mexico. Every $10 raised helped to feed a family of four. We raised $1325.82 which helped 132 families who are struggling. We thank God for all of our generous families at Salem who are willing to share the love of their Savior through this means.

2nd Semester Offering- Kingdom Prep
Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School, an all-boys high school committed to faith, service, experience, and excellence, opened its doors to the first group of ninth-grade young men in the fall of 2018. It is located in Wauwatosa, WI. The vision of this inner-city school is to help young men develop their God-given gifts to lead in the home, serve in the Church, engage in meaningful work, and transform the community. We look forward to helping this ministry with our 2nd-semester chapel offerings.

Messy Mondays
Our first Messy Monday was held on January 27th from 5 to 6 pm at Salem. All families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to attend. Families will be charged $5 per child that attends and an activity or craft will be planned for the event. If you know of someone who is looking for a preschool or kindergarten for next year, please invite them. This is a wonderful opportunity to have them see our school and meet our awesome teachers. Future dates planned are February 24, March 23 and April 20.

MAP Testing
Our winter round of MAP testing will begin at the end of January. The students will take three tests to see how much they have grown from the beginning of the school year in math, reading, and language skills. This is one of the ways the teachers assess how the students are learning and growing throughout the year. Please make sure your child has no appointments scheduled so their testing is not interrupted. Thank you!

Bleacher Fundraiser/Update
This basketball season, we have started a new fundraiser to raise money for the new bleachers. Thank you to all who participated in the bake sale at our K-8 Christmas Service. We were so appreciative of the money we raised and the families that offered Christmas treats!  We currently have raised a little more than $16,000 for the project and are looking to raise around $25,000.

Grade 3 & 4 Pop Tab Collection
Mrs. Hasselquist and her class are supporting The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. Her classroom has been part of this program for around 15 years and they have collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received from these go directly to support the Ronald McDonald House. There is a collection bin in the classroom and at the church and school entrances. What a great way to help others!

No More Clipping Boxtops
Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone. You have 14 days to send your receipts in using the app. If you would like to give us your receipt within that time frame and you do not have the app, we can also try to take a picture of it for you to receive credit. Please leave these receipts in the Box Top bin at the school entrance.

Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these!

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans
Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property. Thanks for helping our school!

SCRIP
Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website?  You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it.  You can also now order with your credit card!  All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition - some families have earned over $400 just by using gift cards to pay for their purchases. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $.25 to cover any costs. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We have also added an option to direct your profits to the church. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings on our school year.
