May Salem School News

COVID School Year Salem has had some instances of students being exposed to COVID since spring break. The implications so far have been minimal and we pray that continues. We are thankful for parents and families who are keeping their children home when sick, thus allowing us to continue to minimize having our school year interrupted by exposures. Call Meeting Held Mrs. Naomi Getka returned the call to teach 3rd and 4th grade and Paul Schulz returned the call to teach 5th-8th grade and be Technology Director. After they returned the calls the School Board decided and it was approved by the Voters on Monday, that 3rd and 4th grade would be split for next year. This means that Mrs. Hasselquist will be teaching 4th-grade full-time next year.

Salem called Thomas Stob (currently serving at Zion Lutheran in Denver, CO) to be our 3rd-grade teacher and Athletic Director as well as calling Christine Rindfleisch (currently serving at St. Johns Lutheran in Wauwatosa, WI) to be 5-8th grade teacher and Technology Director. Please keep these two individuals in your prayers as they decide where best to serve their Lord and Savior. SPTO News Salem’s Parent Teacher Organization had a planning meeting on April 15th. The meeting was mainly to elect a new President and Vice President. Sherah Spark and Bethany Falch have filled those positions. Meghan Bicek has also joined the Events committee and is a welcome addition to the team. We thank these women for stepping up and serving Salem by being involved in SPTO. School Plays PreK and K-4 are preparing their plays. Unfortunately, they will only be in a virtual format this year. Once those are recorded, we will share them with you to watch as a family. 5th-8th grade is planning an outdoor play on May 25th at 6:30pm. Unfortunately, we are only having the student's families join us for the in-person performance. We wish all of these students God’s blessings as they prepare their plays and perform them. Sports Update Bowling and Track continue to go well. The bowling students continue to enjoy their practices and matches. They have been doing very well this season, and we look forward to seeing them improve. The Track team continues to practice to prepare for the May 7th Meet. The students are getting in shape and improving on their jumping and other skills. We look forward to seeing how they perform at the meet. 8th Grade Class Trip The 8th Grade Class raised funds for their upcoming class trip selling pizzas and Rose Floral cards in April. Thank you very much for supporting their efforts! They look forward to a trip to

Wisconsin Dells in June.

St. Croix Joint Ministry with Salem Salem’s congregation approved that our school can begin having detailed conversations with St. Croix Lutheran Academy to make a detailed plan. We are planning on creating a place on our website to keep everyone up-to-date on the progress being made. That information will be shared once we have a location for the information. An update will also be given at the July and September voter’s meeting. Registration for Preschool Next School Year We now have a waiting list for our 4 and 5-year-old preschool classrooms. There are still some spots available for 3-year-olds. The registration fee is $175. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have any questions about what your duties would be in each area of volunteering please contact the vacation Bible school coordinator, Debbie Hansen at dhansen@salemlutheran.org.

Referral Program The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt. No More Clipping Boxtops Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone. Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label, and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these! We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage facing Panama Ave. on our property. Thanks for helping our school! SCRIP Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website? You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it. You can also now order with your credit card! All you have to do is log in and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders. This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition. We have also added an option to direct your profits to the church. Contact the church office for more information. Prayer One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school year.
