School Plays in May

The Preschool will present its play “American Symbols” on Thursday, May 10 in the gym starting at 6:00 p.m.  The play features symbols that represent the United States.  Many songs will be included in the play. Also on Thursday, May 10, kindergarten through fourth grade will present “The Amazing Grace Race.” It is a musical that depicts this year’s school theme “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus” as it is the story of a group of runners who are running the race of life, much like the race that Christians run with Jesus to heaven. We anticipate “showtime” to be around 6:45 p.m.  We hope to see you there! Grades 5-8 will present their play “Mystery at Shady Acres” on Wednesday, May 23, at the Phipps Center in Hudson, WI, at 7:00 p.m.  There will be a free-will offering to help cover the cost of the theater rental.

Everyone is invited to attend these performances and support our developing stars of the stage!

Salem Board of Education/Education Committee Meeting - The Board of Education meets at the same time as the Education Committee.  Their next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m.  People that would like to address the board may request time at the beginning of the meeting by contacting the principal, Roger Zolldan (rzolldan@salemlutheran.org), or the chairman, Karl Paulsen (kvkthethinker@gmail.com).  The meeting will go into closed session after the people that signed up to speak are finished with their topic.

Update on Stillwater School Board's Proposed Change of Start Times

This is an update on Stillwater School Board’s proposal to change school start times in 2019-2020. The Stillwater School Board met last night and one of the topics on the agenda was the proposed changes in starting time to accommodate a later start for the high school students.  This change in start time for the high school would affect the start and end time for Salem students.  In the proposals presented last night, Salem would start school between 9:15 and 9:40 a.m., and end between 3:45 and 4:10 p.m. Jane Grobe and I spoke on how starting later and getting out later would affect our students’ learning and how it would disrupt family schedules. The middle school, where some of our students participate in after-school extra-curricular activities, would have their school day ending at 2:00.  That would mean if students left Salem for after-school activities, they could miss over 2 hours of instruction to be at the start of the middle school activities.
