May School News

Remote Learning Extended
Due to Governor Walz’s recommendations, Salem will be doing remote learning for the remainder of the school year. We wish we could get back into the school building, but to keep our Salem families safe and healthy we will remain apart. The teachers will continue with the plan put in place in March until the end of the school year.

Graduation
Mr. Klatt, Pastor Brohn, and Pastor Schram have been talking about what to do for graduation as we will most likely not be able to have it in person. We will be having an online service in which we plan to have special accommodations for the graduating 8th graders. We still want to make it special for them and let them know we care about them as they move on to their high school education. The service will still be planned for May 31st.

Confirmation
Confirmation has been postponed until July 26. This will hopefully give enough time for the virus to calm down and for the confirmation class to be confirmed in the church.

Some of you may have already received an email from TADS requesting that you set up your tuition agreement for the 2020-2021 school year. If not, please watch for this email as these will be sent out in the next two weeks to get us set for the next school year. The earliest payments may begin is as early as August or September with payments available through June of 2021. Please contact the school office if you have any questions or if you are having problems setting up your agreement (school.office@salemlutheran.org). Thanks so much for your prompt response on this!

Tuition Assistance 2020-2021 School Year

Just a reminder that assistance requests can be made for K- 8 students only. Any tuition assistance questions can be directed to Mr. Klatt (rklatt@salemlutheran.org).

Lunch Accounts
Thank you to all who used the Salem Food Service this year! K-8 families, your current lunch balance can be found on TADS Educate. Preschool families that are not returning next year will be sent a refund of their lunch account balance in May. For all those families that are enrolled with us for the 2020-2021 school year, your lunch balance will roll over into the new school year. Those with a negative balance will receive a reminder to send in a payment or schedule a TADS withdrawal. Please direct any questions on your lunch account balance to schooloffice@salemlutheran.org.
Thank you!

Registration for Next School Year
Returning school families’ enrollment was open for the 2020-2021 school year on January 6th. Registration fees for next year are as follows: Preschool’s registration fee is $175. K-8 registration  is $275. Our preschool classes are almost full.  Please enroll now if you still want a spot!

Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the amount of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

Summer Skills Books
For many years now we have been recommending a resource for you to use in the summer months to keep your child active in their learning. This has been helpful to several of our school families (Mrs. Hasselquist especially likes to recommend the math review for her students). They have sent us a website that families can use to order materials and have them sent directly to your home to use as supplemental help now or to be ready for when the summer arrives.

Summer Vacation Bible School
A decision will be made at the end of May as to whether VBS will be held as planned June 15-19th this summer. Please see https://www.salemlutheran.org/vbs for more information.

No More Clipping Boxtops
Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone.

Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these!

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans
Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property. Thanks for helping our school!

SCRIP
Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website?  You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it.  You can also now order with your credit card!  All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition.  There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We have also added an option to direct your profits to church. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school year.
