March School News
Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive for recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.
Registration for Next School Year
Returning school families’ enrollment was open for the 2020-2021 school year on January 6th. Registration fees for next year are as follows: Preschool’s registration fee is $100 before March 1st and $175 after. K-8 registration fee is $175 before March 1st and $275 after. Our preschool classes are almost full. Please enroll now if you still want a spot!
Math Bowl and Spelling Bee
We will be participating in the Math bowl at St. Croix on March 7th. They will get a chance to show off their math skills in a quiz bowl format against other schools. Salem’s 5th-8th graders will also get the opportunity to show off their spelling skills on March 7th as well. They will be competing against the other area WELS schools. We wish them the best as they use their skills to glorify God.
Confirmation
The 8th graders will have another opportunity to show their faith during the 10:30 am worship service on March 1st. The students will be answering questions to show their study of the catechism and the Bible. All are welcome to come and support the 8th-grade students as they share their faith with the congregation. It is also a good opportunity for older students to see what will be expected of them in 8th grade.
Family Academic Night - Literacy
Our literacy themed academic night will be on March 5th from 6-7:30 pm. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a night of celebrating literacy at our school. Watch for more information as we share the plans for this event in the coming days on our Salem News Blog.
Lent Begins
Starting on February 26th and through the month of March, will be our Lenten Services on Wednesdays. The services are at 4pm and 7pm. What a wonderful opportunity to hear the story of how our Savior went to the cross, suffered and died for our sins. Please note our school children will be singing in the 4:00 pm services on March 4th (Jubilate), 18th (Gr. K-4) and 25th (Gr. 5-8). There is a meal served between the services as well.
Spring Break
Salem will have its Spring Break from March 9 - 13.
Adult Night Out - Friday, March 20th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Messy Mondays
Our next Messy Monday will be held on March 23 from 5pm to 6pm at Salem. The final Messy Monday will be held on April 20. All families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to attend. Families will be asked to give a $5 per child donation and a different activity or craft will be planned for each event. If you know of someone who is looking for a preschool or kindergarten for next year, please invite them. This is a wonderful opportunity to have them see our school and meet our awesome teachers.

Bleacher Fundraiser/Update
We started a new fundraiser to raise money for new bleachers for our gym. We currently have raised a little more than $17,750 for the project and are looking to raise around $25,000. Thank you to all who have helped us get this far! We hope to continue to get enough funds to start planning the project in April.
Grade 3 & 4 Pop Tab Collection
Mrs. Hasselquist and her class are supporting The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. Her classroom has been part of this program for around 15 years and they have collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received from these goes directly to support the Ronald McDonald House. There is a collection bin in the classroom and at the church and school entrances. What a great way to help others!
No More Clipping Boxtops
Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone.
Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these!
We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans
Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage on our property. Thanks for helping our school!
SCRIP
Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website? You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it. You can also now order with your credit card! All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition - some families have earned over $400 just by using gift cards to pay for their purchases. There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders. This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders. For example, if you earn $5.00 from your order, Salem will keep $.25 to cover any costs. You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition. We have also added an option to direct your profits to church. Contact the church office for more information.
Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings on our school year.
