2021-2022 School Theme

The theme for our upcoming school year is “Together in Christ” based on Ephesians 2:21-22. The verse reads, “In Christ the whole building is joined together… and in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives.” We are starting to put the artwork around school and on our documents. We are excited to continue building our Salem Family on the firm foundation of God’s Word and Christian love.

Staffing Update

With the Brohns accepting the call to Farmington, New Mexico, this gave us two vacancies in the Middle School.

We have called Daniel Bredendick to serve as our 5th and 6th-grade teacher as well as our technology director.  He was serving in Fort Atkinson, WI, and recently became available for a call. His wife currently teaches at Lakeside Lutheran High School and his children are both grown. We are happy to tell you he has accepted our call and we look forward to him joining our teaching ministry team!

The current plan for Mrs. Brohn’s replacement is to have Mrs. Michelle Stob (Mr. Stob’s wife) and Mrs. Elaine Kannas split the teaching position by both being part-time.

We will continue to update you as the summer months progress.

School Plays

For those of you interested in watching the plays from the various grade levels and may have missed the Classdojo post, they are posted below for you to watch and share with family and friends:

Meet the Teacher Nights (School Orientation Nights)

Salem has two days for school orientation for the 2021-2022 school year. This is the time when you can meet with the teacher to talk about the rules and expectations of the classroom. Your student can also bring in their school supplies to put them in their desk to get it all situated. Please put one of the two following dates on your calendar in August. You will receive a link allowing you to sign up for a spot in the next few weeks:

August 23 from 8am - 12pm

August 24 from 3pm - 7pm

Watch for our Registration Information Letter to arrive by email soon! If you have ANY questions before then please contact Diane in the school office. (school.office@salemlutheran.org)

School Updates

With summer in full swing, the school is getting its usual cleaning over the summer months. We also have some switching of rooms going on for the upcoming school year. Mrs. Hasselquist will be moving down with the 4th graders to the lower level where Mrs. Brohn used to teach. Mrs. Hansen is moving into Mrs. Hasselquists old room in the corner by Mrs. Kaiser’s and Mrs. Klatt’s room. Finally, Mr. Stob will be moving into Mrs. Hansen’s old room at the end of the upstairs hallway. The library is also being converted into a flex classroom that can be used for tutoring and a few middle school classes.

Other updates happening at Salem:

New Display Boards are purchased and will be installed in the remaining classrooms, replacing the Smartboards currently in place.

New carpeting is being installed in two of the preschool classrooms.

We are working on purchasing and installing a PA system to use for announcements and emergency procedures.

The school parking lot has been redone and looks amazing.

School Hallway Painting -  Help Needed!

We are hoping to work on painting the school hallways over the summer. We would very much appreciate some volunteers to do this work. We will have the paint and supplies available for anyone who is willing to stop in and paint as much as they are able for as long as they like. Please contact Mr. Klatt (rklatt@salemlutheran.org) or the school office (school.office@salemlutheran.org) for more information.

St. Croix Joint Ministry with Salem

We are still in the very early stages of making a plan. As the plan takes a more concrete form, we will find an avenue to share that with school and church families.

Registration for Preschool Next School Year

We now have a waiting list for our 4 and 5-year-old preschool classrooms. There are still some spots available for 3-year-olds.  The registration fee is $175. Referral Program

The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

No More Clipping Box Tops

Boxtops has come up with a more technological way to earn money for Salem Lutheran School. Instead of clipping the box tops and sending them in, you can now scan your receipt through the app on your phone and the points will be awarded to your school. The website to sign up on is https://www.boxtops4education.com or you can download the Box Tops for Education app on your phone.

Thanks to all who have been collecting these labels for us over the years! Boxtops will still honor any non-expired labels you may still see on their products. However, these will be phased out over time as the new products will not have the old label, and scanning the receipt will eventually be the only way to collect points for our school. Bring in any non-expired labels you find. Our school can still get credit for these!

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans

Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage facing Panama Ave.  on our property. Thanks for helping our school!

SCRIP

Have you checked out the ShopWithSCRIP.com website?  You can now order your own SCRIP any time, anywhere you need it.  You can also now order with your credit card!  All you have to do is login and sign up! If you have students at Salem, the rebates earned can be applied to your child’s tuition.  There will be a flat 5% fee on all orders.  This will cover the shipping and administrative fees involved in the orders.  You can also apply your profits to your child's lunch account as well as tuition.  We have also added an option to direct your profits to church. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer

One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for us throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school year.
