May Message from the Principal

                                             Fix Our Eyes on Jesus

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
                                                                                                        Hebrews 12:1-2

Our school year is rapidly coming to an end.  Throughout this year we have grown in many ways. Our bodies grew and we may be taller and bigger.  We have learned a lot more so our knowledge has grown.  We have practiced in athletics, music, and art so we have grown in our physical and artistic abilities.  We have learned how to respect others and handle our differences so we have grown socially.  Most importantly though, we have grow spiritually.

Our motto this year was “Fix Our Eyes on Jesus”  from Hebrews 12:1-2.  The mission statement of Salem Lutheran School is “Equipping the soul, mind, and body for a lifetime and beyond in Christ.”  Notice that Equipping the Soul is listed first.  This is what makes a Christian education, like one you receive at Salem Lutheran School, different from other forms of education. Every day this school year we have learned more about Jesus and His saving work.  We have learned about the commandments and what God expects from believers in Christ.  We have learned Bible passages to help us when we need guidance in our lives.   This is how we “Fix Our Eyes on Jesus” in our school.

How we live our lives outside of school is another way we “Fix Our Eyes on Jesus” , or in other terms, demonstrate our faith.  Other people should be able to see your Christian faith in the way you treat others, how you speak, and what you do and what you don’t do.  This applies to the last part of our mission statement “...for a lifetime and beyond.”   Unfortunately, this isn’t what we always do.

It is easy to get distracted and lose your focus on what is right.  Have you ever gone for a walk where there is no marked trail?  If you don’t have a focus point, or a compass reading, it easy to stray off course and not reach your intended destination.  Often people that are lost in an unfamiliar area will find that they have been walking in a big circle because they don’t have a focal point to guide them.  Sometimes our lives might seem like this too if we don’t keep our focus on Jesus and his Word.  Moses told the Israelites before they took possession of the promised land “So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left.  Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong  your days in the land that you will possess.”( Deuteronomy 5:32-33)

We need to daily read from the Bible and feed our souls on the Gospel message.  This will help us keep our focus and “Fix Our Eyes on Jesus”  for now, a lifetime, and beyond.  This is my prayer for you, to continue to grow in faith through God’s Word and Sacraments.

It has been an honor to serve as your principal this year.  It was very enjoyable to see individual growth in students and growth in the school.  May God continue to bless your growth in faith and academics.
