Middle School Ski Outing Field Trip 2018—This Friday, Feb 23

As a reminder, our middle school students have a field trip planned for this coming Friday:

Salem’s middle school students will be traveling to Afton Alps—Meadows Chalet on Friday, February 23 for a great day of skiing and snowboarding! (Students in grades 5 and 6 will ski. Students in grades 7 and 8 have the option of skiing or snowboarding.) We plan to leave school by 9 AM and return by 3:20 PM. We need parent drivers and/or chaperones for this trip.

Students will participate in the Learn to Ski/Snowboard program offered by Afton Alps: Build your confidence & control while learning to safely ski or ride down the slopes. Taught in a station format, progressing at an individual pace from equipment fitting to turning & stopping. Experienced students pass through stations and ski independently.

A fee of $21 per student includes lift ticket, equipment rental, and lesson. Helmet rentals are included but not mandatory. For safety reasons, poles are not rented to students in this program. There is no cost for those who have a season pass and their own equipment.

Chaperones are needed. They must be able to assist and supervise students before, during, and after the lesson. Chaperones are the same price as students.

Participants should bring a bag lunch and beverage or enough money to purchase a meal from the concession stand. We need to dress properly for an outdoor winter activity—lined mittens or gloves, a knit cap, snow pants, and one pair of medium weight socks (no anklets). For safety, don’t wear your long scarf. Straight legged pants are not recommended.

Please complete the form and return it to Mr. Scharf with payment on or before Tuesday, February 20. Rental forms will be distributed a few days prior to the trip.
